Sarita Handa’s new collection of decorative pillows

A spectacular collection of cushions at Sarita Handa inspired by the meandering lanes of Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Azerbaijan and Mexico, each with a tale of travel to tell.

In a riotous depiction of haute craftsmanship using the finest materials in Sarita Handa’s atelier this season, memories of wanderlust are evoked. The Spring-Summer 2021 collection of decorative pillows and throw cushions are a springtime vision of finding bliss in the meandering lanes of Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Azerbaijan and Mexico as you rediscover a sense of optimism and joy exploring indigenous textiles, arts and craft.

Taking  a trip down memory lane to the Central Asian cities is where Sarita Handa draws her inspiration for her bold-embroidered cushions. Turkish carpet and rugs inspired artwork find expression in a series of cushions where the play of appliqué, knots and hand embroidery is highlighted in bold, vivacious colors. The Naxos collection is a journey through 19th century Greece in a contrasting grey and red matte. They are both global and refreshing, but the Sarita Handa ethos comes to life most eloquently in the Krafat Collection. Inspired from the Memling Gul rug, the expressive patterns are a historic masterpiece and a rare form of traditional Azerbaijani embroidery.

Azulejos and Azule are reminiscent of Egyptian art and textiles and the Otomi collection is a bright revelation of an embroidery style mastered by the Otomi people of central Mexico. A poignant depiction of nature in full bloom in saturated tones conjure subtle drama with Flora and Fauna.  The birds find prominence in ivory velvet applique in a pretty garden filled with flowers and exotic plants. A layered mix of these textured cushions and the scene is set for a light-hearted spring afternoon.

“Homes have become a natural extension of our personal style. These cushions evoke the spirit of travel and in their own small way act as a distraction from the mundane routine of today. At the same time, they fortuitously chime with current trends. Beautiful materials, sophisticated textures and simple gestures elevate your experience of a room,” says Suparna Handa, managing director, Sarita Handa.
